General Music

The foundation of our music program is our general music classes, as we prepare our students for a life of making a joyful noise to glorify God in every chapter of their life. Students in preschool and kindergarten meet once each week and elementary classes meet twice each week for instruction in singing, rhythm, note recognition, pitch awareness, and music history. Each class has a specific mission that they are on in their journey of music!

  • K3, K4, & Kindergarten: Introduction to Music
  • Grades 1 & 2: Music Exploration
  • Grades 3 & 4: Recorder Adventure and Instruments of the Band/Orchestra
  • Grades 5 & 6: Beginning Band and Choir, with a focus on music theory

As students advance in their experience at MMBA in the Fine Arts, they will continue their journey with the following opportunities:

  • Grades 7 & 8: Band, Handbells, and Choir, with a focus on the great composers
  • Grades 9-12: Band, Handbells, and Choir, with a focus on music appreciation

All students participate in our school Christmas concert, as well as the spring concert, with additional performances throughout the year. The musical instruction from Preschool through 4th grade thoroughly prepares students for participation in the Band and Choir opportunities available in the upper grades.

Our fourth-grade students will begin competing in the Illinois Association of Christian Schools (IACS) Fine Arts Tournament, and continue each year through 12th grade, with the opportunity of competing at the national level in high school. Most of our students have graduated with a proficiency in at least one musical instrument and have continued utilizing their skills to further God’s kingdom as adults and bring glory to God through music!
