Fine Arts

The mission of the band program is to help students develop the talents and abilities God has given them and to encourage them to use those talents to glorify Him. Band instruction begins in fifth grade and progresses through senior high. Older transfer students may begin instruction in one of the standard band instruments by taking private lessons. MMBA offers private lessons in flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, stringed instruments, and orchestral percussion.

All three bands listed below perform in MMBA’s Christmas and spring concerts and participate in the Illinois Association of Christian Schools (IACS) Fine Arts Competition. Senior high band competes at both the state and national level.

Elementary Band

All students in grades 5-6 participate in the beginner band. The director assists each student in choosing an appropriate instrument, then instruction is given three times a week in a mixed group format. The school provides instruments, or the child may choose to use his or her own instrument. We use book one of the Standard of Excellence series as our method book, which is supplemented with appropriate concert literature.

Junior High Band

Students in grades 7-8 participate in junior high band. The class meets three times a week in a mixed group format. Instruction consists of technical exercises and level 2 and 3 band literature.

High School Band

Students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to audition for senior high band which meets three times a week in a mixed group format. Participants will be playing at level 3 or higher.
