Handbells

The mission of the handbell program is to bring glory to God through the glorious instruments of Handbells and Tonechimes. We offer Handbells/Tonechimes to our Junior High and Senior High as a chosen elective, usually meeting twice per week. We will foster the growth of personal musicianship, improve skills, and build confidence in playing for the edification of each other, our church and school, and anyone whom God lays on our path. We will utilize our musicianship skills, as we experience a wide variety of literature, reach a high degree of music literacy, and play as an ensemble, performing in a variety of musical opportunities, which include our Christmas concert, spring program, as well as participating in the Illinois Association of Christian Schools (IACS) Fine Arts Tournament at the state and national level (for SH only). Each year, we also give the students the opportunity of performing and caroling during the Christmas season, as an outreach to our community, spreading the joy of our Savior through music!
We believe that being in Handbells will foster a sense of belonging and community where every individual plays a vital role. Playing Handbells demands self-discipline and motivation, as every person is contributing equally to the music-making process, while caring for their specific instruments. We desire not only to teach our ensemble to play a high caliber of music, but also to take care of and give great intentionality to these beautiful instruments that God has entrusted to us. “…For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required...” Luke 12:48
